Celebration of culture
Yesterday we celebrated the King’s Birthday in Malaysia.
As part of the innovative Anti-Racism Working Group, my sub-group has focused on raising the profile of the celebrations of the host country.
This presentation is, in small part, a small contributions towards celebrating culture and the different cultures within our collective culture- but also making the information accessible and understood by all stakeholders.
It is intended that one of these presentations will be produced and sent out to all members of the community before every celebration in the next school next year.
In time, it is also our goal that these 'factual' presentations will be complimented by a video of 'personal experiences', which will hopefully help us steer clear of any stereotypes of these cultures.
This was the test-run, for want of a better phrase, and it is also hoped that in time, we will add further translations of different languages spoken in our community. It is intended that next year, this work will be undertaken by our student leaders.
The presentation viewed 50 times by different members of our school community; and although I’d hoped for a larger number, this disappointment has been off-set by the diversity within the group of 50- and by the different areas of the community which they represent.
Many thanks to everybody that supported with this first presentation.
